Socialist Republic of Vietnam
(Vietnamese: Cộng hòa xã hội chủ nghĩa Việt Nam)
I have a foreign judgment that I want to enforce and/or recognise in Vietnam, what are Vietnam's rules?
In summary, Vietnam has separate bilateral agreements for the reciprocal recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments with Cambodia, China and Lao PDR. A foreign judgment rendered by the courts of those countries can be recognised and enforced in Vietnam pursuant to the terms of those agreements.
If your foreign judgment was rendered by a court of a country other than Cambodia, China or Lao, it can be recognised and enforced in Vietnam on the basis of the principle of reciprocity.
The terms of Vietnam's bilateral agreements , in addition to the principle of reciprocity, are set out in ABLI's Vietnam Country Report by Dr Ngọc Bích Du.
